Samsung LED TV coming in 2009

We’ve all pretty much heard of LED TVs by but the truth is that most manufacturers are producing LCD televisions that use an LED backlit panel to produce some breathtaking image quality. Ok, so now that there’s no confusion, Samsung have announced the imminent release of the 9000 series LCD TVs. “So what?”, I hear you say. Well, this new Samsung range will be the first to sport a direct-type LED backlight (rather than the edge-lit LED seen on their current 8500 series). The interesting piece to come out of this is the 9000 series will still have a slim profile which is something that most manufacturers haven’t cracked yet. How thin, we’re not sure and, to be fair, many buyers will probably stick to the likes of the Samsung UE32B7020 mainly because the Samsung prices will be high – qouted: US$3599.99 for the 46-inch (Ouch!).

Building a thin LED only TV will be a pretty impressive breakthrough. Want to know why? Here’s the technical answer: direct-type LED backlighting technologies are usually quite thick. The main reason being that soYme distance is needed to get the light emitted from thousands of LEDs to the display panel in uniform manner by using optical films and other technologies. Yeah, I know, that was boring but you can wake up now. Let’s just say that with the 9000 series it would appear that Samsung have worked out how to do this in the small spaces seen on current LCD/LED TVs. Now all we have to do is wait and see if they look as good as they sound.

The Samsung 9000 seris will be available in the US sometime in September and should land in the UK shortly after. Two sizes will be available: 46-inch and 55-inch sporting 240Hz frequencies, a dynamic contrast ratio of 7,000,000:1 (yes, that’s MILLION!) and a blazing fast 2ms response time (games consoles at the ready). So, if you’ve got what will probably be a few grand kicking around in your wallet this new Samsung 9000 series LED TV could the one for you.

Just a quick update: there are now a number of models available inlcuding the LG 42SL9000 and LG 47SL9000…check ‘em out now!

LG Shows off latest LED TV

In the very first post on this blog I mentioned LG’s forthcoming LED television range which was due to make an appearance some time this year. Well, the waiting is over: enter the SL90 LED backlit TV! I have to be honest, there doesn’t seem to be much info about this new LG model kicking around just yet but rest assured; we’ll find out more and update you asap.

So what do we know about this model? Well, for a start, the Samsung molding process, ‘crystal design’ seems to have hit the spot for many buyers as LG are touting now only the 1.15in panel thickness but also the “seamless” design (get this: “…look like it has been hewn from a solid piece of granite” – that’s LG’s sales pitch!). There is no visible distinction between screen, bezel and speakers, so this new HDTV looks like a single pane of glass – very eye catching.

LED backlighting cut down on electricity consumption plus the electronics wizards in their techie department and claiming the TV has a contrast ratio of 3,000,000:1. The SL90 is equipped with a 120Hz (100Hz for the UK) refresh rate plus their much talked about “invisible speaker system” which hides the speaker grilles but, through some technical cleverness, still gives a very decent audio output.

Here’s the kicker: as yet, only 42in and 47in versions of the SL90 have been announced and we can expect to see them later this yet (no prices yet). I’m pretty sure that, given the popularity, an LG 32 LED TV range will hit the market pretty soon. We have every intention of putting some pretty images as we find them but as it is LG have only released some shots of this LED TV that are, well, boring! We’ll update you soon.

Hi and welcome to the 32 LED news section of our site. As the days go by we’ll be updating you with the very latest information on new and upcoming TV’s from a range of manufacturers. You, or may not, know that right now there are only two manufacturers specialising in building LED backlit televisions: Samsung and Sony which gives them a bit of a strangle hold on the market (the effects of which can be seen in the relatively high price of the products currently on the market). The good news is that LG and Toshiba are also about to release new models which should force prices down and keep a few more of those pennies in our pockets.

As we get info upcoming models and the specifications we’ll update both the main pages of our site and this blog. In the meantime, head on back the main site where you’ll find price comparisons on two pretty stunning 32 inch Samsung LED TV models.

Keep watching, we’ll be back soon…and thanks for taking the time to stop by.
